Spanish Revival in Santa Monica

Preparing to restore their well-loved Mediterranean house, the homeowners discovered their house was dangerously lacking proper structure and likely would not be safe in an earthquake. They reluctantly decided to begin anew. The new house is inspired by villages of the Spanish countryside and includes a terracotta tiled entrance courtyard with an outdoor fireplace, a white stucco chimney evocative of a bell tower, and antique paintings of conquistadors embedded into the dining room paneling.

The pool and pool house are sited at the bottom of a steep slope at the rear of the long narrow site and connected to the main house by an underground corridor which also provides space for the wine room, a family room and gym.
