Mark Ferguson & Oscar Shamamian

Founding Partners

Mark Ferguson and Oscar Shamamian founded their eponymous firm in 1988 based on a shared enthusiasm for traditional architecture and a desire to achieve a creative synthesis of historical style, regional character, and personal taste with every project.  Since its founding, the core practice of Ferguson & Shamamian Architects has been the design of custom residences, including city apartments, suburban houses and country estates rooted in classical and traditional design. They interpret individual project needs with a strong commitment to artistic integrity, a passion for detail, the use of fine materials, and exceptional workmanship.

Mark Ferguson received a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1978 and Master of Architecture from Princeton University in 1982. He apprenticed at firms in Pittsburgh, Boston and Princeton before moving to New York City in 1982 where he joined the architectural department of renowned interior design firm, Parish-Hadley Associates.

Oscar Shamamian received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in 1981 and subsequently completed his Master of Architecture from Columbia Graduate School of Architecture and Planning in 1985. Oscar began his career in the office of Robert A.M. Stern before also joining Parish-Hadley Associates. It wasn’t long before the two architects realized their mutual vision and set out on their own.

Mark and Oscar understood the essential fusion of interiors and exteriors, and of architecture and interior design, and quickly learned the importance of collaboration with interior designers and artisans. This holistic approach to design and building still guides the practice today and has led to exceptional collaborations with many of the country’s top interior designers, landscape architects, artisans, and builders, an attribute for which the firm is highly regarded in the industry.
