Equestrian Estate in Fairfield County
While the program for this new equestrian estate in Fairfield County was extensive, the owner wanted to downplay its size and create a house suited to the architectural language and history of the community. Taking advantage of the large property, the plan was separated into multiple buildings to suit the homeowner’s requirements. The main house, guest house, pool house, and six-stall barn surround a meadow which undulates down a slope toward horse paddocks and into the surrounding woods.
The main house exterior appears to have evolved from an early 18th-century Colonial house with later Federal and early 20th-century additions. While the exterior of the house is decidedly American, its interiors reveal stylistic influences of its European owner.
