Thank you to @theworldofinteriors for sharing our collaboration with @beataheuman, who, along with our imaginative client, pushed our work in such a creative and personal direction. From the article: “Certain original features, such as a set of oak pocket doors here and a small fireplace there, only revealed themselves in the course of Ferguson & Shamamian’s careful renovation. The owner wanted to avoid the house looking overly polished and so many period details, including the wooden floors and cast-iron radiators, were only gently touched up to preserve their patina. ‘Often clients want things to be perfect,’ says Heuman. ‘But here, the owner wanted us to embrace the fact the floorboards are all wonky and it’s an old house, which was really freeing. I think it very much brought out the best in us. That’s really what we believe in. Sometimes people don’t get that: they don’t want a creaky door, they want everything to be straight – but nothing is perfect.’”@theworldofinteriors

Imagined as if it had evolved over generations, this new house was designed to engage local building traditions as well as a “history” of a fictious yeoman owner. Here, a series of spaces lead you from a formal dining area in a grand drawing room, through a butler’s pantry (with paneling designed to complement an antique cabinet), through to more casual family spaces. A #PalladioAward winner, the project would not have been possible without the exceptional talents of our collaborators, with interiors by @tinozervudachi and a landscape by @miranda.brooks.gardens, nor the singular vision of the homeowner or the dedication of our team: Oscar Shamamian, Andrew Oyen (@andrewroyen), Jonathan Hogg (@jonathanbhogg), D’Ann Tollett (@dlovely_in_bk), Scott Porter, Nikita Chabra, Jordan Kasperson (@j_kasperson), Cindy Michel, and Marc Rehman. "@CullmanKravis' previous decorating schemes for the clients had featured neutral backdrops to spotlight the collection that the art patrons-she is a trustee at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and he at the Menil Foundation- have amassed over the past decade and a half. This time around, however, exuberant hues prevailed. "When they were new to collecting abstract art, they wanted a pale envelope," Cullman says. "Now they want color."⁠
