Small outbuildings add so much to the overall character of a property. In designing this pavilion, the team looked to historic and vernacular references of buildings designed for recreation. From the story: “To create their new home in Southampton, New York, a pair of discerning clients brought together a team of #AD100 talent, including landscape designer Miranda Brooks (@miranda.brooks.gardens), Ferguson & Shamamian Architects (@fergusonshamamian), and interior decorator Victoria Hagan (@victoriahaganinteriors)…Children and their guests notwithstanding, much consideration was given to how the principals live when devising the facade and floor plan. “We worked with them for such a long time that we understood them,” says Oyen, who along with Shamamian had overseen several projects spanning over 30 years with the couple In this house, they envisioned a shingle-style abode that conveyed traditional Southampton panache outside and clean, contemporary style inside.” Photo by @thomasloof; styling by @howardwchristian; words by @davidfoxley.

From the article: “The home design’s biggest challenge, and the way @stephentchrisman and his team approached it, resulted in one of its most appealing features: a covered porch off the second-floor primary suite, which the clients had specifically requested. Considering the hipped roof and the home’s overall style, the team at first was puzzled. Then the answer emerged in somewhat nontraditional fashion—creating space for the airy porch by incorporating an open-ended bay. From Veranda: Grey Gardens has always held a special place in fashion entrepreneur Liz Lange's heart. The creative director and chief executive officer of Figue (@figuelove) grew up not too far from the 1901 East Hampton, New York, estate and dreamt about what it would be like to live in the famed house. Those dreams became a reality in 2017 when Lange (@lizlangeofficial) purchased the property and embarked on an extensive restoration.
