Artful Apartment on the Upper East Side
When the homeowners purchased this Upper East Side apartment, they sought to create a home that would complement—and stand up to—their art collection. The architectural details of the apartment are inspired by the Rosario Candela Art Deco apartment building in which it is located, offering a strong connection to the building and a rich foundation for the interiors.
The intricately patterned floor in the entry is influenced by European precedents, including Kunsthistorisches Museum, a favorite of the owners. The wood-paneled living room, which was inspired by Jean-Michel Frank and its austere detailing furthers the Art Deco conceit resulting in an apartment that honors the past while looking to the future.
