Museum Mile Reinvention

In virtually original condition when purchased, the homeowners wanted to return the apartment to its former glory as a place for entertaining, while still making it suitable for a young family. The first step was to alter the floor plan to provide a continuous sequence of spaces that could be combined or separated to suit both everyday living and various options for entertaining.

While preserving some of the more interesting details of the apartment — such as the decorative wall paneling and tracery ceilings in the gallery and many of the original fixtures and fittings — significant renovation was necessary to employ a spare architectural vocabulary befitting the owners’ collection of modern art and 20th-century furnishings.
