Consolidation of Two Park Avenue Apartments

Two adjacent duplexes in a 1920s building by Rosario Candela had been rudimentarily combined in the 1980s without consideration for flow or connection. To rationally and gracefully integrate the double duplexes, one of two identical curved staircases had to be removed. Replacing it is a new straight stair featuring the same railing and stone treatment as the original, which allows for a 75-foot long corridor on the first floor and thus the complete integration of the two apartments.

The extensive layering of materials, including a vast array of custom architectural and decorative finishes, required rigorous collaboration among all disciplines.
